Board of Directors
The Carefree Society Board is composed of individuals elected annually at the Annual General Meeting, currently held in the fall each year. The Board is responsible for the operation of the Society, its properties, land, building, vehicles, and the services it provides to individuals with abilities and mobility requirements in the Prince George area.
Rhonda Gardy
More About Rhonda
Rhonda is a CPA, CMA accounting professional with over 20 years of experience. She currently works as a Finance Officer for the Provincial Government at MCFD. Her diverse background includes experience in tax, audit, procurement, and HR, having worked across audit firms, government, and for-profit industries. In her spare time, Rhonda gives back to the community by volunteering with local non-profit organizations. She is currently the Treasurer of the Carefree Board of Directors, where she has served as a board member for six years. She also holds Executive positions on the Boards of Fort George Manor as Vice President and Active Support Against Poverty as Treasurer.
Ken Biron
More About Ken
Ken began with the Carefree Transportation Society in 2013. Through Make a Change Canada and the Carefree Transportation Society, he completed a Web Design course he had started over a decade earlier and went on to build the organization’s first website. His design training was completed with WordPress for Business, and since then, he has influenced both Volunteer Prince George and this website. Both platforms are based on WordPress, with rapid changes and engaging blogs expected soon. Ken has served as President of the Carefree Society for quite some time—since before PG Transit took over HandyDART and throughout the organization’s transition.
Terry Pipkey
More About Terry
Terry has been a board member since 2010, serving as our President and then as Vice President. Terry has been a great asset to our Board of Directors donating his time and expertise by sitting on our Bargaining Committee and sharing the knowledge he has gained from his years working for Canfor and CNIB.
Linda Renner
More About Linda
Linda Renner joined the Board in 1990 and has supported the Society in many ways. Linda is our longest serving Board Member. She has held a variety of positions on the Board and is currently the Secretary. Linda is a strong advocate for accessible transportation in Prince George and was Chairperson for the Accessible Transportation Action Committee. She always helps with fundraisers and information sharing booths that our Society participates in.
Stephanie Dix
More About Stephanie
Stephanie Dix has been a board member since 2017. She has donated her time by helping at fundraisers and the information booths at the annual BC Northern Exhibition. She has used our service since she was a toddler attending the Child Development Center and has a wealth of information to share which helps us improve our transportation services.
Bari Colebank
More About Bari
Bari is a former employee of the University of British Columbia and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics from the same institution. He serves on the CNIB NBC Gaming & Grants Board and the CNIB Strategic Leadership Council. Bari is also a member of Prince George’s Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusion and has been a coach for the Special Olympics for several years.
Born and raised in Prince George, Bari has been part of the blind community for almost 40 years. He enjoys working out, movies, audiobooks, music, and spending time with family.
Therese Clark
More About Therese
Therese has been working part-time at a hospice thrift store since December 2024. She previously worked with School District #57 as an educational assistant and has also served as a residential worker at AimHi. Her volunteer contributions include serving on the Board of Directors for Volunteer Prince George and CNIB Gaming, displaying needlecraft at the BC Northern Exhibition, and coaching soccer for Special Olympics.
Originally from Longueuil, Quebec, Therese has three sisters and two brothers living back east. She is married to Tim Clark, is the mother of two boys, stepmother to two boys and one daughter, and a proud grandmother to 11 grandchildren. She enjoys gardening—especially vegetables and herbs—meeting new people, shopping, baking, and cooking.
Debbie Rowe
More About Debbie
Debbie joined the Carefree Society Board in 2021, inspired by her mother’s frequent use of HandyDART at the time. She remains committed to ensuring that individuals with unique transportation needs have access to reliable transportation for both personal and recreational activities.
A semi-retired teacher, Debbie taught in School District 57 for 30 years. She has been a lifelong volunteer, contributing her time to many organizations throughout Prince George.
Susan Evans
More About Susan
The Carefree Society has been a part of Susan’s life for nearly 24 years. She was originally hired as a HandyDART driver and, at the request of a past board president, began attending board meetings as the driver representative. Although that role changed when PG Transit took over the HandyDART contract over a year ago, Susan continued to serve on the volunteer board. She recently became a director and has since retired from her role as a HandyDART driver.
Susan enjoys cooking, baking, walking, and watching the new growth of spring. She looks forward to supporting the Carefree Society in its continued efforts to help Prince George residents meet their mobility needs.
